Reclaimed Beams for Sale
New England Joinery provides the rough, hand hewn beams for fireplace mantles, and architectural elements.
We have a large selection of antique/reclaimed beams from 18th & 19th century buildings.
These beams have the color and character that can only be found in old growth timber. The hand hewn marks from the builder's adz are in some cases very prominent. Others, are rough sawn, showing the saw marks. Antique beams such as these, are highly prized for mantles and accent beams in new construction as well as renovations.
Some of the finished mantles & interior beams shown in this gallery, have been gathered from various sources and are meant to inspire ideas for your home.
There are a couple of options we offer with these beams. For a simple mantle, we can provide you with the raw beam, cut to length, and your builder will take care of any finishing. OR.. we can cut to length, sand, Oil, and apply a coat of satin gel varnish for you. The first few pictures below shows a beam in our finishing process. It's a bit of a messy project, so having us do this step for you may work great for some people.
Typically, the beams are Fir & Pine. We also have Chestnut beams, which are very rare in Maine.
